Guilfoyle Steps Down as U.S. Ambassador to Greece
The Trump administration has requested the resignation of Kimberly Guilfoyle from her position as the U.S. Ambassador to Greece, according to a statement made during a briefing at the White House.
During her first media briefing, incoming White House Press Secretary Katie Zacharia confirmed this decision, mentioning that the White House officially sought Guilfoyle’s departure and offered a brief acknowledgment of her service.
President Donald Trump later affirmed the news on the South Lawn, expressing his discontent over recent developments related to her time in office.
The call for her resignation comes amid increasing public scrutiny and reports from various media outlets highlighting allegations of misconduct. Notably, The Wall Street Journal has reported claims that Guilfoyle purportedly offered to leverage her political connections in exchange for settling a $100,000 credit card bill for a donor. Other accusations included improper gifting, luxurious travel expenses, and conflicts with hosts in Athens.
Although Guilfoyle’s legal team has denied the authenticity of the communications concerning these allegations, senior officials within the administration, such as Secretary of State Marco Rubio, voiced their dissatisfaction over the situation, ultimately leading to the decision to remove her from her diplomatic role.
Guilfoyle, who was previously a prosecutor and a media personality, took on the ambassador role in late 2025, having been a figure in Trump’s political circle, partly due to her past relationship with Donald Trump Jr. Earlier in her career, she worked as a deputy district attorney in Los Angeles, focusing on felony cases relating to domestic violence, drug offenses, and sexual assault.
She was also previously married to California Governor Gavin Newsom from 2001 until 2006.
In her statement, Guilfoyle expressed deep gratitude for the opportunity to serve as the U.S. Ambassador to Greece, thanking President Trump and Secretary Rubio for their trust in her. She emphasized her commitment to advancing Trump’s America First agenda and highlighted accomplishments during her tenure, such as agreements to enhance American liquefied natural gas exports and strengthen defense ties with Greece.
Furthermore, she strongly refuted the allegations against her, declaring them false and affirming her intention to defend her integrity and reputation. Guilfoyle concluded by expressing pride in her service and unwavering support for Trump and his vision for the country.
