Kimi Antonelli brings notable guests to his inaugural F1 home Grand Prix in Imola.

Formula 1 Rookie Kimi Antonelli: A Promising Start

Formula 1 newcomer Kimi Antonelli is off to an impressive start in his first season. At just 18 years old, he made a mark by scoring points during his debut at the Australian Grand Prix. He even secured pole position in the sprint race at the Miami Grand Prix and is currently ranked sixth in the driver’s championship, with a noteworthy seven points ahead of the legendary Lewis Hamilton, whom he succeeded at Mercedes after Hamilton’s transfer to Ferrari.

This week, Antonelli returns to Italy for his very first home race in Formula 1, the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, and he’s excited to have some special company.

He’s invited his classmates.

Even though Antonelli is still balancing school and racing, he thought it would be great to let his classmates experience the paddock and see what a race week looks like for him.

“Yeah, I organized this—I really appreciate the support from some folks at Mercedes,” Antonelli shared. “Rosa Herrera Venegas helped me pull this together. I think it’s a great opportunity for them to see everything up close. They’re used to watching races on TV, but it’s a whole different experience to witness it firsthand.”

He continued, “I hope they enjoy it. We planned activities and will show them the car and give some explanations without going into too much technical detail. I don’t get to spend much time at home, so this helps maintain those connections. Little things like this can really mean a lot.”

The team even posted an image of Antonelli meeting with his classmates on Thursday.

However, the Mercedes rookie recognized the struggle of keeping up with schoolwork while adapting to his new racing life.

“I can’t attend school regularly, but I try to study whenever I can squeeze in some time,” he mentioned in Imola. “I’ve missed quite a bit of schoolwork, so I’m catching up as best as I can.”

“It’s challenging since it requires a lot of energy and focus. So it’s essential for me to conserve energy, especially with such an important race weekend ahead.”

Antonelli also hopes that the energy of competing in front of Italian fans will give him an edge on the track this week.

“Each race weekend is unique due to the circumstances. But it’s thrilling, and the atmosphere can do wonders for my performance. I’m genuinely eager to see how it all unfolds this weekend,” Antonelli added.

The busy weekend starts with two practice sessions on Friday, leading up to the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix.
