Kimi Antonelli surprises everyone with an impressive pole lap for the F1 Sprint in Miami.

Miami, Fla. – There’s definitely something about Miami.

Traffic can be a real mess, for sure.

This writer’s experience driving around the Miami area was confirmed over just three days during the Miami Grand Prix. It was evident even on Friday afternoon during the F1 sprint race qualifying. Four drivers—Jack Doohan, Yuki Tsunoda, Gabriel Bortoleto, and Oliver Bearman—struggled to set a second lap in the first segment because of traffic issues, which unfortunately kept them from moving on to the next qualifying round.

In the end, it was Kimi Antonelli making his debut at the Miami Grand Prix who came out on top.

Starting alongside him is Oscar Piastri, while McLaren’s Lando Norris landed in third. Max Verstappen, fresh off celebrating the birth of his daughter, secured the fourth spot for Red Bull.

Antonelli’s lap was actually the fastest recorded in Miami Grand Prix history.

“Qualifying was intense,” Antonelli remarked afterward. “I felt really confident out there. My final lap felt powerful.”

At this point, Antonelli holds the title of the youngest driver to ever start from pole position in an F1 race.

Speaking to the media, including SB Nation, on Thursday, he shared how his confidence is growing with every race weekend, especially now with this achievement.

This reflects the interim qualifying results for the F1 sprint race at the Miami Grand Prix.
