‘Kimmel’ Guest Host Anthony Anderson Urged America ‘Step Back from Vitriol.’ Moments Later Said Being White Is J.D. Vance’s Only VP Qualification

dark star Anthony Anderson guest-hosted the ABC show. Jimmy Kimmel Live Following the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump on Monday evening, Mr. Trump appealed for a tone down in political rhetoric, only to play up the racism card just minutes later in attacking Mr. Trump’s running mate, J.D. Vance.

In his opening monologue, Anderson said how strange it was to be handed the role of late-night host after such a vicious attack on the life of a presidential candidate.

“All weekend I was thinking, ‘What is Jimmy Kimmel going to say about this on Monday?’ And I thought, Jimmy Kimmel on Monday,” he said. I told a jokeaccording to variety.

He also called for less “vitriolicness” in political rhetoric, adding: “Hopefully this is a moment when we can all take a step back from the rancor and the vitriol in our politics and calm down.”

of Law & Order The performer also joked about crazy left-wing conspiracy theories that claim the assassination attempt was faked. “If you want to stay sane in these crazy times, stay off the internet,” he told the audience, referring to the left-wing “Blue Anon” conspiracy movement.

But despite Anderson’s appeal for easing the rhetorical tensions in today’s politics, he also threw the racism card at Donald Trump’s newly announced running mate, Sen. J.D. Vance.

The actor, who has made a living by highlighting racial issues, accused Vance of being unqualified to run for vice president for any reason other than the fact that he is white.

“Vance is everything Trump is looking for in a running mate,” Anderson gushed. “He’s white, and that’s it. And he looks like Eric and Donald Jr. had a baby.”

Of course, J.D. Vance has lived a much more noble life than Anthony Anderson: He survived an abusive childhood in a broken home and escaped an impoverished upbringing by enlisting in the U.S. Marine Corps in 2003, earning numerous decorations during his tour of duty in Iraq, including the Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.

From there, he first ran successfully for U.S. Senate in his home state of Ohio.
