Jimmy Kimmel has reportedly issued an apology for his remarks that insulted Donald Trump supporters, claiming his words were “deliberately twisted” before airing. This statement came after Disney chose to suspend him “indefinitely” in response to increasing pressure from ABC affiliated stations, raising concerns about free speech and possible censorship.

Kimmel had intended to address the fallout in his monologue but was advised against it by Dana Walden, co-chair of Disney Entertainment. There were concerns that his comments could exacerbate the situation.

While Kimmel said his words were misrepresented by members of the Make America Great Again movement, the fallout began when he criticized the right for attempting to attribute leftist ideology to a 22-year-old suspect, Tyler Robinson, involved in a recent incident.

Kimmel remarked, “We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang,” accusing them of trying to score political points off a serious situation.

Sources suggest that Disney executives, including CEO Bob Iger, made the decision to bench Kimmel after Nexstar, which owns several affiliated stations, expressed intentions to pull the show for the foreseeable future.

Kimmel’s remarks and the subsequent actions have sparked a national debate around free speech, with many conservatives celebrating his suspension while also showing caution about the implications of such censorship.

Over the years, “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” has seen a significant decline in viewership, averaging considerably fewer viewers compared to its earlier years. In 2025, it had an average of 1.6 million viewers, representing a drastic decrease from previous years.

The situation remains fluid as Disney has not provided immediate commentary on Kimmel’s suspension or the surrounding controversy.
