Kimmel Tears Up, Colbert Lectures America for Rejecting Kamala

Late-night comedians Jimmy Kimmel and Stephen Colbert suffered emotional breakdowns Wednesday during their first broadcast after President-elect Donald Trump defeated Kamala Harris in the presidential election. Kimmel fought back tears during a show that was clearly difficult for the comedian, who has spent much of his airtime bashing Trump and his supporters in recent years.

ABC's Jimmy Kimmel was clearly on the verge of tears during part of his opening monologue.

“Let's be honest, last night was a terrible night,” he said, his voice shaking. “It was a terrible night for women, for children, and for the hundreds of thousands of hardworking immigrants who keep this country running for health care, climate, science, journalism, justice, and free speech.”

He continued: “It was a terrible night for the poor, for the middle class, for the elderly who rely on social security, for our allies in Ukraine, for NATO, for truth, democracy and decency.”

Kimmel managed to pull himself together and hurl insults at Trump, at one point comparing the president-elect to the president. star wars movie.

At CBS, Stephen Colbert took a more angry approach to the election results.

“Well, shit. It happened… again,” he began his monologue. “Donald Trump won the 2024 election after a bizarre and vicious campaign fueled by a desperate desire to stay out of prison.”

He later added: “As a late-night host, people often say to me, 'Well, some of you should want Trump to win because he's going to give you a lot of material to work with.' , No. No one says to the person cleaning the toilet, “You must be happy to see someone have explosive diarrhea.” There are a lot of materials you have to work with. ”

NBC's Seth Meyers took a more emo approach by reviving Kamala Harris' “Joy.”

He began his monologue by saying, “It's an honor to be here with you guys and not feel alone.” I'm happy. ”
