King Charles III and Queen Camilla Plan U.S. Visit After Shooting Incident

King Charles III and Queen Camilla are set to visit the United States next week, despite a recent shooting that occurred during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in Washington, D.C.

On Saturday night, a confrontation unfolded at the Washington Hilton hotel, leading to an evacuation of high-profile attendees, including President Donald Trump, Vice President J.D. Vance, and First Lady Melania Trump. A gunman fired shots in the lobby before being apprehended.

The royal couple is scheduled to arrive on Monday for a four-day visit, marking the first time British monarchs will make such a trip to the U.S.

A spokesperson from Buckingham Palace assured that the royal visit would continue as planned, expressing gratitude for the prompt response from security teams. It seems that after discussions on both sides of the Atlantic, minor adjustments might be made to the agenda, but the overall itinerary remains intact.

Earlier, the palace indicated that King Charles was kept informed about the events and was relieved that everyone involved in the incident was safe.

Discussions are ongoing to evaluate whether the shooting would affect any operational plans for the visit. Reports suggest that Charles and Camilla reached out privately to Trump and Melania after the incident.

Trump later addressed the situation, labeling Charles as “a great guy” and expressing anticipation for his visit. He acknowledged the King’s ongoing health challenges, remarking on his bravery in dealing with these issues.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer also condemned the attack at the Correspondents’ Dinner, emphasizing the importance of democratic institutions and press freedom.

The suspect in the shooting has been identified as Cole Allen, 31, from California. He has since been charged with federal offenses, including assault on a federal officer. Reports indicated he had created a manifesto expressing anti-Trump sentiments prior to the incident.

Charles and Camilla’s visit is intended to celebrate the 250th anniversary of American independence. Their itinerary will include stops in Washington, D.C., New York, and Virginia, allowing them to take part in cultural exchanges and memorial events.

The visit underscores the longstanding ties between the U.S. and the U.K., and it appears that both nations are eager to maintain this connection, despite recent challenges.

After being welcomed by Trump and Melania, the royal couple will attend various engagements, including a state dinner and ceremonies honoring military service members. Ultimately, the visit reflects the shared history and collaborative spirit of the two nations.
