King Charles III is admitted to a hospital for a scheduled prostate operation

King Charles III was admitted to a private hospital in London on Friday to undergo “corrective surgery” for an enlarged prostate, according to Buckingham Place newspaper.

The 75-year-old king will undergo treatment at a London clinic, while the Princess of Wales is recovering from abdominal surgery. After his arrival, the King visited Kate in the hospital.

“The King was admitted to a London hospital this morning for scheduled treatment,” the palace said in a statement. “His Majesty would like to thank everyone who has extended well-wishes over the past week.”

Prince Charles, who took the throne 16 months ago, developed symptoms and underwent tests, which were diagnosed as benign on January 17. He was urged to cancel his engagement and rest ahead of the surgery.

Publicity about the king's surgery is seen as an opportunity to encourage other men to get prostate exams in line with public health advice.

The palace said the king was “delighted to know that his diagnosis is having a positive impact on public health awareness”.
