King Charles III Removes Prince Andrew's Titles and Evicts Him from Royal Home

LONDON – Significant Changes for Prince Andrew

King Charles III has decided to strip his brother, Prince Andrew, of all remaining titles and is relocating him from Royal Lodge after facing increasing pressure regarding Andrew’s ties to the convicted sex offender, Jeffrey Epstein.

In a statement, Buckingham Palace confirmed that formal proceedings to revoke Prince Andrew’s titles and honors have commenced.

As a result of this unexpected decision, Andrew will be known as Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor instead of prince, and he will be relocating to “private accommodation.” This is quite rare; the last time a British royal was stripped of their title was in 1919, when Prince Ernest Augustus lost his British title due to his support for Germany in World War I.

There had been growing demands for Andrew’s expulsion from the Royal Lodge, especially after he stepped down as the Duke of York earlier this month, following new revelations about his association with Epstein and sexual abuse allegations made by Virginia Giuffre, one of Epstein’s victims. Giuffre’s memoir was released last week.

However, King Charles took the matter a step further by removing Andrew’s title of prince, which he had held since birth as the son of the late Queen Elizabeth II.

The palace stated, “These charges are necessary despite his continued denials.” They expressed their sympathy for victims of abuse.

A declaration from Giuffre’s brother was made, celebrating his sister’s triumph, noting that “an ordinary American girl from an ordinary family” had defeated a British prince with her courage and truth.

Earlier this month, Andrew faced renewed public scrutiny after emails surfaced, revealing his extended communication with Epstein, which he had previously understated.

This scrutiny intensified with the release of Giuffre’s book, “Nobody’s Girl,” where she alleged a sexual relationship with Andrew when she was just 17. She described multiple encounters, stating he seemed to think it was his “birthright” to engage with her.

At 65, Andrew has long denied Giuffre’s accusations but stepped back from royal duties in 2019 after a disastrous interview with the BBC.

In 2022, he reached a substantial out-of-court settlement with Giuffre after she filed a civil lawsuit, though he did not admit wrongdoing, acknowledging her suffering as a trafficking victim.

King Charles had earlier discussions with Andrew about relinquishing his title. However, he had managed to sidestep the ongoing scandal until recent events.

After attending a public event at Lichfield Cathedral, the king was confronted by an attendee who questioned him about his knowledge of Andrew’s relationship with Epstein and whether he had sought police protection for Andrew. The king did not reply, and it was uncertain if he even heard the individual, but the interaction drew attention and led to awkward headlines the following day.

With this latest move, Andrew will lose his status as a prince and forfeit titles like His Royal Highness, Duke of York, Earl of Inverness, and Baron Killyleagh, alongside honors such as the Order of the Garter and the Grand Cross of the Victorian Order.

He will relocate to the King’s Sandringham estate near the northeast coast and will receive financial support from Charles. Meanwhile, his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson, who had shared a large mansion with him, will need to find a new place to live.
