The final whistle barely rang during the Kings season.

According to multiple reports, Sacramento and its general managers parted ways with each other after a season-ending 120-106 defeat in Wednesday’s Play-in Tournament.

“McNair didn’t want to fire Brown, according to league sources, and there are internal questions as to whether he really wants to sign DeRozan or trade him for Lavine,” the outlet reported.

“There has been tensions between McNair and the ownership group about the future of Christie (owner Vivek) Lanadive was considered a supporter of Christie.”

McNair has only two seasons in two seasons that earned the NBA Executive of the Year after finishing the franchise’s first playoff berth since 2006, and spent five seasons running the team’s basketball operations.

According to Athletic, former Knicks general manager Scott Perry is considered “a front runner” for the opening, but Calvin Booth, the fired Nuggets general manager, is also expected to be in the run.

The Kings went 195-205 (.488) during McNair’s tenure and fell to the Warriors in seven games with the appearance of the line playoffs in the first round of the 2023 playoffs.

McNair’s departure completed a complete remodeling of the team’s previous coach general manager setup, and Brown was fired early in the season.

The Kings previously lost assistant general manager Chris Wilcox to the University of Utah.

McNair appears to be paying the price of the King who won’t remove it from the 2023 season, when he won 48 games and secured the third seed at the Western Conference.

Sacramento only won two games in the 2023-24 campaign, but fell to the ninth seed after losing to the Pelicans in the play-in tournament in a clash of the 8th seed.

This year’s team took a pretty good step, moving on to 40-42 and finished again with the meeting’s 9th best record before bowing out of the play-in tournament after one match.

The King signed Derozan this offseason and signed it on a quest to improve, but attempted to reposition the chair in a half-hearted start by swapping Star Dearon Fox for the Spurs and getting Lavine from the Bulls.

Brown received the boots after just 31 games, and the Kings were 27-24 in the regular season under Christie, who was “well-positioned” to stay in the “position” role, following the athletic.

McNair was able to land with the Rocket or the 76ers due to his relationship with the executives who run those franchises, according to the publication.

He reportedly spoke to the team about “the view of a bigger painting” after Wednesday’s defeat, but the players were able to learn as soon as he became someone who hadn’t made a call for the future.
