Potential Vikings Reunion for Kirk Cousins?
It looks like Kirk Cousins might be setting the stage for a possible return to the Vikings.
Recent reports indicate that he is parting ways with the Falcons, as noted by Diana Russini from The Athletic. Sources shared on Saturday that Cousins could be a viable option for Minnesota.
Russini highlighted Cousins’ previous relationship with head coach Kevin O’Connell and mentioned that the Vikings may be interested in bringing in some healthy competition for quarterback JJ McCarthy.
Cousins previously spent six seasons with the Vikings before signing with Atlanta in 2024. During his time in Minnesota, he racked up an impressive 23,265 passing yards and 171 touchdowns, which earned him three Pro Bowl selections (2019, 2021, 2022). He also led the Vikings to the playoffs twice, albeit departing in 2023 due to injuries.
After inking a hefty four-year, $180 million contract with the Falcons, he found himself losing the starting spot to rookie Michael Penix Jr. by the end of the 2024 season. He began 2025 as a backup but was thrust back onto the field when Penix suffered an ACL injury during a close loss to the Panthers in Week 11.
Last season, Cousins played in ten games, notching 1,721 yards with a 61.7% completion rate, totaling ten touchdowns against five interceptions.
In January, the Falcons adjusted Cousins’ contract, hinting at his exit. It’s now expected that he’ll be waived come March, ahead of the new league season, as reported by ESPN.
Kevin Stefanski, the newly appointed head coach of the Falcons, has a history with Cousins from their days at the University of Minnesota. However, he remained tight-lipped when asked about Cousins’ future in Atlanta.
“I have a past relationship with Kirk, but I’m not sure it’s time to discuss those matters yet,” Stefanski mentioned in January. “Those conversations will happen in due time.”
