Kim Zolciak and Kroy Biermann are required to follow specific guidelines regarding attire and visitation times while visiting their son, KJ Biermann. He is currently residing at Atlanta’s Metro Regional Youth Detention Center as he awaits a court hearing related to serious charges of sodomy and sexual battery.
The Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice stipulates that young detainees are entitled to at least two visitations each week, with each visit lasting a minimum of one hour. According to the rules, at least one of those visits should occur over the weekend.
Visitation privileges are granted to biological and adoptive parents, legal guardians, foster parents, children of the detainee, family caregivers, and even mentors or clergy members who provide support to the youth.
KJ Biermann is being held at the detention center and is facing felony charges in Fulton County related to aggravated sodomy and aggravated sexual battery.
Visitors are allowed up to five people at a time. If in-person visits aren’t feasible, there’s an option for video visitation available for families.
The state’s policy has specific rules regarding youth charged with sexually harmful behavior. This is particularly relevant given KJ’s arrest on August 17 for the aforementioned charges.
A Juvenile Detention Counselor must ensure that any alleged victims are not on the approved visitation list unless a court gives permission or a special approval is granted by the victim advocate.
Visitations can be temporarily restricted due to security concerns or may be canceled entirely in the event of disturbances or emergencies.
Once visitors are approved, they need to go through security checks to see the teenager. Everyone entering the facility must pass through a metal detector, and they might face additional searches, like a pat-down.
Zolciak is also required to follow a dress code, which prohibits sleeveless tops, sheer clothing, exposed midriffs, and any shorts, skirts, or ripped pants that are above the knee.
Prior to entering the visitation area, personal belongings are thoroughly screened. Items like strollers, baby carriers, and outside food or drinks are prohibited unless explicitly permitted by the facility director.
Families can bring a maximum of $20 in quarters for vending machines in a clear bag, and any snacks they purchase must be eaten before the visit concludes.
Upon arrival for visitation, KJ must undergo a frisk search, along with a strip search after the visit ends.
KJ’s day-to-day life within the facility has been reported, showcasing a structured routine aimed at both accountability and education. Glenn Allen, communication director for the Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice, shared that the daily schedule is designed to maintain a safe environment conducive to personal growth.
The typical day begins with morning hygiene, room cleaning, breakfast, and educational classes, with activities continuing into the afternoon, including recreation, dinner, and counseling sessions emphasizing personal development.
Detainees can also engage in various activities, from worship services to creative arts and life skills sessions.
Zolciak has vocally defended her son against the allegations. KJ is scheduled to return to court on September 8.
This week, KJ sought an early release, citing exemplary character and academic performance in addition to his achievements in football. His lawyer argued in court documents that KJ is a student in good standing actively involved in extracurricular and community activities as well as being a talented athlete.
Recently, he was indicted on seven counts, which include aggravated child molestation and other serious charges, stemming from alleged incidents involving a victim younger than 16 back in April.
Zolciak has firmly denied the allegations, labeling them as “reckless and deeply troubling.”
KJ’s court date is set for September 8.
