KJP, Media Completely Miss The Obvious With Fact Checks On FEMA Spending

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre and various liberal media outlets are completely missing the obvious with their “fact checks” about FEMA funding going to illegal migrants.

The story is rather simple, but the propagandists within the White House and major media organizations are chumming the waters with bogus claims of “misinformation.” Former President Donald Trump, Elon Musk and Republican Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan “amplified” the claim that FEMA diverted disaster relief money to illegal migrants in need of housing.

“FEMA and a White House spokesperson both said the claim was false. It conflates the agency’s disaster relief fund with a separate program that helps homeless people. The money provided by Congress for the disaster relief fund must be used for that purpose, and any other use is against the law,” USA Today wrote in its fact check.

So, FEMA did not technically divert “disaster relief” money to illegal migrants. But FEMA did spend other funds, not intended for “disaster relief,” on illegal migrants, via the Emergency Food and Shelter Fund. KJP and the media, however, are spinning the story to such a degree that they are ignoring the very obvious: that all the non-disaster relief money spent on illegal migrants could have — and should have — been allocated to disaster relief for citizens.

FEMA is like the roommate that tells you, “Hey, man, could I eat some of your food for dinner? I don’t have enough money to buy groceries this week.” You respond, “How do you have money to bet on college football but not enough to buy groceries?” And then he says, matter of factly, “Well, the thousands I lost betting on Alabama to beat Vandy came from my gambling budget. My grocery budget is empty.”

I don’t think I’m overstating it when I say this is one of the dumbest media fact checks I have ever seen — they are so caught up with trivial definitions that they bury the entire lede of the story, which is that FEMA spent a decent chunk of change on foreigners who broke the law.

Once again, the federal government can find all the money it needs for priorities like illegal migrants or student debt relief, but suddenly accounting is hard when it comes to relief for American citizens. Shocker.
