Something has disappeared from Klay Thompson’s Instagram account.
The longtime Warriors star unfollowed the team on the social media platform, removed all references to the team from his profile and deleted most of his Warriors-related posts dating back to April 2022.
This includes removing photos of himself celebrating after winning an NBA championship with the Warriors in 2022.
Thompson, a four-time champion with the team, is set to become a free agent this offseason.
Rumours have been rife about his future, and his recent Instagram activity has made the situation even more interesting.
The 34-year-old Thompson has played his entire career with the Warriors but has struggled in recent years.
He is averaging 17.9 points per game this season, his lowest mark since his second year in the league in 2012-13.
Thompson also shot just 38.7 percent from three-point range, the second-worst mark of his career.
It’s worth noting that he was 0-for-10 from the field in the Warriors’ loss to the Kings in the play-in tournament, but it’s possible that this will be his final performance with the team.
“To be honest with you, I haven’t really thought about it,” Thompson said of his future during his end-of-season press conference. “… I still have to reflect on this year. It’s been a year of ups and downs. At the end of the day, I just tried my best, personally and as a team, to win as many games as we could.”
Another local star followed a similar path: 49ers star receiver Deebo Samuel deleted a post about the team while seeking a new contract in 2022.
And it worked out well for him, as Samuel and the team agreed to a three-year contract worth roughly $71 million.
Thompson helped define an era for San Francisco alongside teammates Stephen Curry and Draymond Green, making up one of the most successful trios in NBA history.
“We’ve been through the best of times and the worst of times,” Thompson said. “Losing championships, winning championships, missing the playoffs, we’ve been through it all together. It means a lot and I’m grateful for the time I had with those guys. We’ve accomplished some pretty historic things.”
