Rams Expand Coaching Staff with Kliff Kingsbury

The coaching staff for the Rams is set to improve with the addition of former Commanders offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury. According to reports from ESPN, this decision was confirmed on Friday.

It appears that there have been discussions between Kingsbury and Rams head coach Sean McVay over the past couple of weeks. The opportunity arose, in part, because the Giants hired Matt Nagy as their offensive coordinator, which has evidently turned Kingsbury’s attention to L.A. as a potential landing spot.

Yet, interestingly, the Giants are also reportedly considering Kingsbury as a strong candidate for their own staff.

During his tenure with the Commanders, Kingsbury demonstrated his offensive skills. He played a crucial role in helping rookie quarterback Jaden Daniels earn the Offensive Rookie of the Year award in 2024, guiding Washington to its first NFC Championship appearance since 1991. However, after a challenging season filled with injuries in 2025, which ended with a 5-12 record, Kingsbury parted ways with the team. Reports suggest that disagreements between him and head coach Dan Quinn on offensive strategy contributed to this decision.

Despite the split, Kingsbury was well-liked by players like Daniels and backup Marcus Mariota. Daniels, reflecting on the past year, mentioned, “I wish I could have gone out and played more.”

Kingsbury has a decade’s worth of college coaching experience before stepping into the NFL in 2019. His background includes stints at Houston, Texas A&M, and Texas Tech, where he notably guided Johnny Manziel to a Heisman win as a freshman in 2012. Moreover, he helped develop Patrick Mahomes into the quarterback he is today during his time at Texas Tech.

After his time at Texas Tech, Kingsbury took the helm of the Arizona Cardinals, where he had a record of 28-37-1 and made just one playoff appearance over four years.

Now transitioning to the Rams, he joins a program that, under McVay, has reached the playoffs seven times in nine seasons, including a Super Bowl victory in 2021.

Kingsbury is stepping into an exciting situation, with star receivers like Puka Nacua and Davante Adams returning, alongside a strong backfield led by running backs Kyren Williams and Blake Colm. Additionally, quarterback Matthew Stafford announced his return for another season after securing his first MVP award.

It’s definitely shaping up to be a promising chapter for Kingsbury in Los Angeles.
