Knicks add Matt Ryan and Alex Len for roster competition

Training camp is set to see a new addition as Nick heads back home.

Matt Ryan, 28, who participated in 19 games with the Knicks last season, along with Alex Ren, 32, a player with a substantial history at the Kings over the past four seasons, has made a deal with New York, as reported.

They become part of a group of Knicks holding non-guaranteed contracts, all vying for spots as training camp begins next week at the Tarrytown practice facility.

Earlier reports mentioned that the Knicks secured three veterans: Malcolm Brogdon, Landry Shamet, and Garrison Matthews.

Currently, the Knicks are maintaining cap space while keeping one veteran on a guaranteed deal. Many around the league speculate they may free up another slot in the deal, with New York having three available two-way contracts as well.

Brogdon and Shamet are viewed as strong contenders for the final roster spot.

The Knicks have also finalized a training camp contract with Tousan Evbuomwan, who previously played for the Nets. He is anticipated to compete for one of the two-way contracts designated for young players expected to spend the majority of the season in the G-League.

Neither Ryan nor Ren has been in the league for an extended period and are therefore not eligible for a two-way contract. Ryan, who is originally from Westchester County, joined the Knicks in early November and became part of Tom Thibodeau’s lineup.

He was let go in March but has now returned.

Ren, at 32, has a connection with new Knicks coach Mike Brown, having coached him while he was a fifth overall pick before spending three seasons in Sacramento.

The Knicks can bring up to 21 players to training camp and are currently committed to at least 20. Various free agents have come through the Tarrytown facilities, including guard Dennis Smith Jr. and forward Tray Jemison III.

As for Jemison III, there’s still consideration for a training camp position, though sources say he had not signed a contract as of Tuesday morning.
