Mitchell Robinson’s Turbulent Moment Amid Knicks Loss
During a challenging game for the Knicks, Mitchell Robinson found himself in hot water—deciding to take matters into his own hands.
The center was ejected during the second quarter of Thursday’s 140-89 defeat, following an aggressive confrontation with Hawks guard Dyson Daniels. Interestingly, videos from the stands at Atlanta’s State Farm Arena presented a puzzling scene, perhaps even more perplexing than what was shown on television.
Robinson seemed ready to take on anyone, using his impressive size—7 feet tall and weighing 240 pounds—to charge toward Daniels, which startled many Knicks fans in attendance.
“Oh my god,” one spectator gasped, followed by a frightened yell. “I’m scared.”
Others, however, were simply looking for any sign of life from the struggling Hawks, who were down 72-22 at that point.
The altercation sparked with just under five minutes left in the half, coinciding with a free throw made by OG Anunoby that extended the lead to 50 points.
As the tension rose, Hawks forward Onyeka Okongwu attempted to separate Robinson and Daniels. On the other side, Knicks teammate Jalen Brunson tried to restrain Robinson as he moved closer to the crowd.
An official took a tumble amid the chaos, and Knicks assistant coach Rick Brunson quickly stepped in to isolate Robinson before the situation escalated further, leading him off the court.
Interestingly, despite the uproar, it seems the incident didn’t disrupt the crowd significantly. If it had, the NBA might have taken a closer look at the situation, noted Stephen Bondy.
This might come as a relief for the Knicks, who can breathe a little easier knowing there’s one less thing to worry about when it comes to potential league penalties.
“It’s tough because when you grow that much, a lot of things happen,” Knicks coach Mike Brown remarked. “When you feel something unjust has occurred, it’s hard to keep your composure.”
Later, even with the chaos, Robinson contributed six points on flawless shooting, coupled with three rebounds and two blocks in just nine minutes.
While Robinson’s message to Daniels on the court didn’t quite land, he still left a note for fans on social media after the game, sharing his thoughts: “I knew something had happened. My mental state is the same. I’m just lost in the world now.”
