Knicks Secure Game 2 Victory Against Cavaliers

The New York Knicks didn’t need a major upset to take down the Cleveland Cavaliers in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals on Thursday. Instead, they achieved a strong 109-93 win, putting them ahead 2-0 in the best-of-seven series.

Although the Cavaliers started strong, holding a 27-24 lead at the end of the first quarter, the Knicks managed to regain control by halftime.

New York began to pull away in the third quarter, stretching their lead to 18 points, much to the delight of the Madison Square Garden crowd. At one point, they even surged ahead with an impressive 18-0 run, reminiscent of their dramatic comeback in Game 1.

Yet, the Cavaliers did fight back. They reduced the 18-point deficit to nine with about 8:30 left in the fourth quarter as the Knicks struggled to find their rhythm offensively.

But OG Anunoby’s timely three-pointer helped to re-energize the Knicks’ fans. Mikal Bridges, who had a standout performance on both ends, hit another three-pointer with 6:12 left on the clock, pushing the lead back to 13 and allowing the Knicks to steadily build from there.

Jalen Brunson had an impressive game, scoring 19 points and delivering 14 assists, marking a playoff career high for him. Meanwhile, Josh Hart, despite a tough start, found his groove in the second half and ended with a team-high 26 points. Karl-Anthony Towns was another key player, contributing 18 points and grabbing 13 rebounds.

With the Knicks back to an 18-point lead and less than two minutes to play, the starters were subbed out, drawing a standing ovation from the supportive crowd.

New York finished the game shooting 52 percent from the field while limiting the Cavaliers to only 39 percent. The Cavaliers struggled at the free-throw line too, shooting just 69 percent overall.

Evan Mobley had 14 points in the first half, but surprisingly, the Cavaliers failed to score in the second half. Donovan Mitchell matched Hart’s 26 points, but struggled with his shooting, hitting 8 of 18 attempts. James Harden added 18 points but was only 6 of 15 from the field.

This victory marks the Knicks’ ninth consecutive win in the playoffs, underscoring their emerging dominance in the postseason.
