Knicks’ furious rally falls just short in heartbreaking Game 2 loss

Buckle up.

The Knicks look like a long series.

If they had the opportunity to fill the pistons, they instead laid eggs for most of the night. Two nights after stealing Game 1, Tom Thibodeau’s team was re-released. This time there wasn’t enough quarter of garden magic to overcome the jarring fourth quarter.

Cade Cunningham was the best player on the floor as Detroit scored a 100-94 victory in quiet MSG in this best-opening round playoff series on Monday night, and a 100-94 victory dating back to 2008, when NBA-Record and 15-game playoff losses.

“When you win, everything is easy. After the loss, you see the real character of the team,” Josh Hart said. “It’s the playoffs. The series is 1-1.”

A pivotal game 3 awaits Detroit on Thursday night.

Only Jalen Brunson (37 points, 7 assists) brought it to the Knicks, but he committed the best turnover. OG Anunoby was very good in the series’ opener and couldn’t slow Cunningham down.

Karl-Anthony Towns (10 points) didn’t take a shot at the final 17:20, and the Pistons rose 35 points.

Schröder hit a tiebreak three-pointer with 56.2 seconds left after Brunson recovered the Knicks from a 15-point deficit. Branson and Mikal missed the 3-pointer who visited the game in the final minute, and Bridge finished a third from downtown. He also missed the final four shots at the final 3:55.

“Yeah, the same thing [as Game 1]Director Tom Thibodeau said. “We made a comeback. We had a good shot at the end, but we couldn’t get in.”

For the Knicks, who committed 14 turnovers, it was an overall volatile performance, but was minus-14 in the glass and overtaken 16 points by the Pistons if they took the fourth quarter of two games.

Thibodeau had a biased gap in his free throws. The Pistons attempted 14 before the Knicks took the first one and went 15 more times to the charity stripe.

“Obviously, the big contradiction of the free throw – it’s huge,” the Knicks coach said. “So I could see it. I don’t know how I’m talking about direct line drive on one side, man’s [Brunson] If it’s fouled, it’s not called. And look, I don’t give you crap as long as it’s consistent on both sides how they call the game. ”

Like Game 1, the Knicks didn’t do particularly well in the first half. They missed their first eight 3-point attempts, committed 10 turnovers and did not attempt the first free throw until 17.4 seconds remained in half. It led to a loud “See, you suck” chant from the faithful garden of the garden. There was a sarcasm of cheers when Branson was finally awarded two free throws.

However, despite so many issues, the Knicks only followed six times on break. Branson (17 points, 4 assists) and Bridge (13 points, 3 steel) were the best players in orange and blue. They scored nine points on a 14-5 run late in the half.

They returned to the tank at the start of the third and managed just four points at the first 7:21 of the period. They missed 10 of their first 11 shots and followed the 15 when Jalen Duren closed out Cunningham Drive inside.

The Knicks woke up and entered the final 12 minutes at age 8, just like on Saturday night, but 67 points were three-thirds to three-quarters a year. Miles McBride was placed in the bank with a 3-pointer as the shot clock expired.

They’ve become even, but this time the Knicks couldn’t get over the hump. They paid uneven efforts Monday night.

“We don’t run 21-0 every day,” Towns said. “We can’t expect something like that, we can’t expect to flip the switch, and we suddenly became a team where we worked hard all year round.
