Knicks get criticized by Charles Barkley for their coaching search

Knicks’ Coaching Plans Appear Troubled

As the NBA offseason kicks off, the New York Knicks seem to be struggling with their plans to find a replacement for Tom Thibodeau. There were some rumors about their interest in former Cleveland Cavaliers coach Jordan Otto, but he’s now taken the head coaching position with the Phoenix Suns, leaving the Knicks with associate head coach Johnny Bryant.

Recently, the Knicks have made attempts to contact current head coaches from various teams, trying to poach them through trades. Coaches like Jason Kidd from the Dallas Mavericks, Chris Finch of the Minnesota Timberwolves, Ime Udoka from the Houston Rockets, and Quinn Snyder of the Atlanta Hawks were reportedly on their radar. However, it seems these efforts have fallen flat.

Charles Barkley has voiced his discontent with the Knicks’ direction, criticizing them for firing a capable coach like Thibodeau. Speaking on NBA TV, he remarked that it’s perplexing to let go of someone who’s clearly made significant contributions without a solid plan for the future. “You don’t just fire such a good coach. Something’s not right here,” he said, noting that the Knicks have reportedly had three coaching candidates decline their overtures.

Since 2000, the organization has faced challenges, having dismissed Thibodeau after the team reached a notable point in the postseason. Despite a respectable record of 51-31 fueled by talent like Jalen Brunson, the offseason remains uncertain for the Knicks. What lies ahead is anybody’s guess.
