The Dodgers won the World Series this year, and they did so with one arm, actually five arms, tied behind their backs. They won 98 games in the regular season, with 11 more wins over the Padres, Mets and Yankees, all while missing five starting pitchers.
This is quite a deal since most starting rotations consist of five pitchers. Still, Dustin May and Shohei Ohtani didn't pitch an inning for Los Angeles. Clayton Kershaw pitched only 30 innings and did not pitch after August 30th. Tyler Glasnow hasn't pitched since August 11th. Gavin Stone hasn't seen a game since August 31st.
This is actually quite remarkable, but not an outlier in baseball. The Braves have been knocking on the World Series door for years. But they actually won their second title in Atlanta in 2021, when the team's best player, perennial MVP candidate Ronald Acuña Jr., missed 80 games with a broken knee. Nevertheless, it was achieved.
In baseball, you can overcome injuries.
