Knicks’ Jalen Brunson out of walking boot and ‘doing light shooting’

Charlotte – According to Tom Thibodeau, Jalen Branson is “light shooting” from his walking boots, removing two weeks of turning his ankle at a troublesome angle.

The Knicks coach added that “hopefully” Branson will be back to establish rhythm before the playoffs.

“Whenever he's ready, he's ready. He puts a lot into his rehab, so now that's where we want to be his focus,” Thibodeau said. “And hopefully he'll be in some games where he'll go back to it and work.”

The Knicks have only 13 games left in the regular season following a 115-98 defeat at Charlotte on Thursday.

In particular, Branson needs four more appearances to qualify for the postseason awards.

Two of them must be at least 20 minutes, while the other two must be at least 15 minutes.

He is a strong candidate for two of them. All NBA and clutch player of the year.

It may be difficult to squeeze it at the end of the season, as there are two sets of backs in the final six games and is a priority to keep Branson healthy.

But obviously, the goal is to get points guard essentially gamers before the first round begins on April 19th.

Branson was injured in overtime against the Lakers on March 6th. He landed in Austin Reeves, nailed a free throw and stepped out from the floor at the crypto.com arena.

The Knicks are 3-4 without a top scorer.

Their offense was tough, but defense increased as a replacement with Miles McBride.

The Knicks are also on a decline in schedule, with their annual March road game – Thank you, Big East Tournament – Branson is not available this year, and the team feels somewhat comfortable with the third seed.

But after the Knicks wore off in Wednesday's defeat to the Spurs, McBride thrusts back violently to the notion that night is acceptable.

“No, I think these are more important days,” he said. “To be honest, if you've played the playoffs before, I feel like these are really an era where these are really trying to tune even further, and these games are even more important, whether you're trying to get into the playoffs or get a better seed. [against the Spurs]. ”

At the individual level of McBride, it's easy to see why these games are so important.

He again sees a big time as a starter, like last season, when surgery shelved OG Anunoby and Julius Randle.

McBride averaged 33.5 in the six games shortly after that, 23.7 minutes before Branson's injury.

Given his skill set, his contribution to defense was as positive as expected.

However, the Spurs' defeat was anxious on both sides of the ball for the Knicks, who were torched by the lesser-known Sandro Mamkerashvili.

McBride said the missed shot was taken over by the defense for the Knicks.

“Our approach felt like we were like a shell of ourselves when there were no shots in it,” McBride said. “We didn't do anything little, especially in tight games or games that happen when we reach playoff games. You might miss a shot, but if you don't go back to the transition, you'll end up capitalizing.”

Also, Branson was not present in the fourth quarter to unstoppable attacks.

That was his biggest trait of the season – to flush his clutch genes.

And now he's shooting with his spinning ankles, so I hope he'll reintegrate and prepare for the playoffs.

“Static progress,” Thibodeau called it.
