The Knicks needed a victories Saturday night so they beat the wizard twice.
With Mikal Bridges' second quarter electric shooting and significant contributions from some unlikely sources, the Knicks helped build a 33-point second half lead against the worst NBA teams.
The game is over, right? There is not at all.
Imagine the nerves of Madison Square Garden, where the wizard is a game with 4/10 points remaining to complete the historic comeback.
Instead, the Knicks woke up at both ends of the courthouse and returned to cruise control on the way to snap a two-game winning streak in a 122-103 victory.
“Was it four? I didn't know that,” the surprised Karl Anthony Towns said after finishing with 31 points and 11 rebounds. “We can't spend those nights. It's the moment when we play a great first half and then the team acts like they're giving us a victory. This is the NBA, everyone.”
Bridges launched a fire from long distances in the second quarter, scoring 20 points and draining all four of his three-point attempts.
He finished with 27 points. Most of it came during construction of a 79-46 lead midway through the third.
“We've all seen the moments showing why Mikal is so much wanted in this league,” Towns said. “He can get the ball, but he does that much for our team and sacrifices us so that we can be the best version of ourselves.”
Cam Payne scored his second start of the year, responding with Team High 10 first quarter points, including the third early, as Jalen Brunson and fellow point guard Deuce McBride were sidelined with injuries.
Payne then hit one of his biggest momentum sliding shots, a 25-point stepback 3, giving the Knicks a 95-88 lead at 8:55.

“He's not afraid,” coach Tom Thibodeau said. “Cam is going to fly it. That's what we like about him. We need to play stronger with a big lead, but that was a big shot.”
Pain's 3 stopped what the Wizard was a 42-13 comeback.
“It felt good, especially after hitting the side of the backboard for two consecutive times,” Payne said, referring to his previous mistake. “I'm glad I found a way to help get the lead back.”
Bridge took a total of zero dribble in four second quarter 3Ss, curled around the ball handler, one from a bounce pass in the corner and two with a catch-and-short on the wing, looking like a rhythm sharp shooter. The two splashed over a 16-second span.

However, he attempted only one third of the shot as the wizard slowly began to take chips.
“If someone gets so hot, there's usually a adjustment to put two of them on. [defenders] Thibodeau said.
After playing 11 of the previous 13 games on the road while MSG took over to the Big East, the Knicks (44-26) opened their longest homestand (3 games) in the final three weeks of the regular season by improving to 4-4 without Branson.
This is the first time they've played multiple home games in a row, Tuesday, since their last game and first game before the All-Star break (February 12th and February 20th).
“It felt like everyone came to know that it was a must-see for us,” Payne said. “Go back on the right track. We're going back home.”
Even if the two key players were sidelined, Thibodeau expanded his rotation to nine in the first 13 minutes.
All nine points in the first half came out and all seven assists in the second quarter, including the rarely used rookie Tyler Colek.
The Knicks were led by the point of breaking four or four ties within three minutes of the game. The fear of slow games is bothering me.
Playing on the road for the eighth time in a nine-game span, the Wizard (15-55) didn't look like a threat until his frustration boiled in the form of a technical foul against Jordan Peel and Bab Carrington.
The 20 turnovers forced by the Knicks proved too much to overcome in the end.
“They're a good offensive team in terms of pace,” Thibodeau said. “They can quickly make up for you the ground.”
Thibodeau had to push his starter, who already played the most time in the NBA – a little longer than he wanted for the nasty wizard.
The town was still on the floor until the last 129 seconds. OG Anunoby finished with 23 points and Josh Hart grabbed 12 rebounds.
