Knicks’ old-school play a refreshing change from NBA’s norm

For those still interested who weren't fooled and made the switch from watching Wednesday's Knicks vs. Sixers, the spectacle included overtime that had a strange, old-fashioned flavor: half sweat, half sweetness.

The Knicks, who won in OT, often chose to play winning basketball as if that was part of the plan. They scored a lot from inside the 3-point arc, perhaps in a concerted effort to take advantage of the continued absence of Philadelphia center Joel Embiid, another forever unfortunate NBA star, inside. He threw several inside passes that led to field goals.

In fact, the Knicks took just 37 3-pointers, roughly 12 to 15 fewer than the modern game, which is backwards in overtime. You could argue that the Knicks won because they played more, better, well, old-fashioned basketball.

And of those 37 threes, OG Anunoby and Mikal Bridges each took 10, so it seemed like it was mostly a group effort to limit the carpet bombing.
