Knicks overpower Nets in remarkable victory to end losing streak

Can the Knicks Play the Nets Every Night?

For at least one evening, it seems they’ve found their ideal remedy.

A game against a familiar rival came just when the team needed it, especially as the season was starting to falter.

On Wednesday night, the Knicks dominated the Nets 120-66 at Madison Square Garden, effectively snapping a four-game losing streak.

The 54-point margin is a record, surpassing the previous high of 48 points, which occurred three times in earlier seasons.

Maybe an embarrassment like this could provide the jolt they need to get back on track.

This victory marks the Knicks’ 13th straight win over the Nets, a run that started in the 2022-23 season.

After a disappointing loss to the Mavericks earlier in the week, the Knicks (26-18) expressed serious concerns about their effort level.

Jalen Brunson urged his teammates to show more accountability, while Coach Mike Brown challenged them to step up their game.

They certainly appeared to respond.

Defense was tighter, with players stepping up to challenge ball handlers earlier. The team’s defensive skills have noticeably improved, allowing fewer open 3-point attempts.

Offensively, other key players besides Brunson became increasingly aggressive, executing the coaching strategy of driving into the lane for open shots.

The energy in Madison Square Garden was palpable, with cheers echoing—a welcome change from the recent silence.

However, it’s important to recognize that this game may not truly reflect their capabilities. The Nets have struggled for some time.

With the Nets sitting 18 games under .500 and their owner seemingly prioritizing draft positions over victories, they likely won’t take this latest defeat too hard.

The game included four rookies, highlighting a wide spectrum of experience and competitiveness.

The real challenge for the Knicks lies ahead on Saturday, as they travel to Philadelphia to take on the 76ers, who are currently winless.
