Knicks-Pistons trade deadline deal hasn’t worked out for either team

So far, this trade hasn’t worked out well for either team.

When the Pistons come to the Garden for Monday night’s matchup, it will be a deal that was supposed to give the Knicks a reliable bench offense for a playoff push and give the Pistons a young 3-and-D wing for their rebuild. Reminds me.

I can’t make a final decision yet, but early returns are not good.

For the Knicks, Alec Burks and Bojan Bogdanovic have barely played their roles.

Burks has had some positive moments in recent trips out west, particularly in Sacramento, but since joining the Knicks he has shot just 32 percent, has as many turnovers as assists and has the team’s worst net rating ( -11.5).

Bogdanovic, also acquired from the Pistons, doubled up with the Knicks as an inefficient shooter (39 percent overall) and defenseman.

He played just seven minutes in Saturday’s win over the Nets, his shortest appearance since 2015.

Given the injuries to OG Anunoby and Julius Randle, both had a chance to play big roles, but he reiterated that Josh Hart and Myles McBride should see more minutes instead.

Quentin Grimes missed 15 of 21 games with the Pistons due to a right knee injury, which first occurred with the Knicks.

Perhaps the biggest beneficiary of this deal is Evan Fournier.

He has appeared in 19 consecutive games with Detroit after being completely removed from coach Tom Thibodeau’s rotation.

However, Fournier has also shot just 6-of-27 in his last four games, and his efficiency since joining the Pistons (38% overall shooting percentage) should not be disappointing for the Knicks. Ta.

Of the four players involved in the deal, only Bogdanovic and Grimes are guaranteed contracts through next season.

The Knicks are inching closer to their ideal spot in the standings.

Ahead of Sunday night’s game against the Heat, Cleveland had lost its second straight game, leaving the Knicks in fourth place in the East just one game behind the Cavs in third place.

The Knicks (42 wins, 28 losses) also have three consecutive games against bottom-ranked teams: the Pistons, Raptors, and Spurs.

Randle, Anunoby and Mitchell Robinson were again ruled out of Monday’s game.

It’s an unfortunate milestone for Robinson, who has returned to contact practice — having missed 50 consecutive games since being diagnosed with a stress fracture in his ankle.

Randall is still waiting for permission to make contact.

Since he dislocated his shoulder, there is a high risk of reinjury.

Anunoby’s injury is once again shrouded in mystery. Tom Thibodeau left the team during a Western Conference trip because his surgically repaired elbow became “inflamed,” but a subsequent MRI showed “no abnormalities.” Told.

The coach added Saturday morning that he had not yet spoken to Anunoby about his recovery.
