Knicks swap Sphere patch for Abu Dhabi jersey sponsorship

The Knicks uniforms have a Middle Eastern feel to them.

“Experience Abu Dhabi” was unveiled Thursday as a new sponsorship patch for the “multi-year deal,” with its logo emblazoned on the left shoulder of Knicks jerseys, warm-up jackets and jersey shirts.

“Experience Abu Dhabi'' is about promoting tourism in the United Arab Emirates and is run by Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, a senior government official who is also the head of the UAE's Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

The NBA has already planted its flag in Abu Dhabi as its Middle East hub, moving preseason games to the oil-rich country over the past three years.

The Knicks are not participating in these games, but with new sponsorships, they could be in attendance.

Abu Dhabi and MSG Entertainment also have a separate marketing agreement.

“These are important and multi-faceted marketing partnerships for both the MSG family of companies and DCT Abu Dhabi,” MSG Sports Chief Operating Officer Jamal Rehsaneh said in a statement.

“Experience Abu Dhabi'' replaces last season's “The Sphere'' patch, which James Dolan recently established as an entertainment venue in Las Vegas after MSG was unable to find a sponsor willing to pay its desired price for advertising space. was advertised.

According to a 2023 Sports Business Journal report, MSG was targeting a $30 million annual contract for a 2 1/2-inch by 2 1/2-inch uniform space.

Financial terms of the new sponsorship have not been disclosed, but the Knicks, the NBA's dominant brand, are likely to receive the highest amount. The Warriors had the most lucrative sponsorship deal, receiving $45 million a year from Rakuten.

Landry Shamet posted an upbeat but ambiguous message on social media about his recovery from a severe shoulder injury.

“Thank you for all the prayers and well wishes,” Shamet wrote. “This is just the next obstacle. It goes against everything about me to fear obstacles. I welcome obstacles. I'm attacking this rehab. I'll be right back.”

In Tuesday's preseason win against the Hornets, Shamet's right shoulder appeared to be torn from its socket when he hit a layup attempt.

Shamet, who was chasing a rotation spot, ran into the locker room and never returned. He was seen in a sling at the practice facility on Wednesday, but the Knicks have not provided an update.

The veteran guard is on a non-guaranteed contract and risks losing more than $2 million in contract if he is sidelined long-term due to injury.
