NBA Announces Upcoming Matches
The initial match is poised to be the most intense one in the upcoming lineup.
The NBA revealed this information on Tuesday.
The game is set for 7 PM on October 22, and it will kick off the NBA opening week on ESPN.
This also marks the first significant game for Mike Brown as the new coach in New York.
The Knicks will also go up against the Cavaliers on Christmas at Madison Square Garden—making them the only Eastern Conference team scheduled to play that day, highlighting their notable standing despite recent injuries.
The Cavaliers achieved a remarkable 64 wins last season and won all four of their meetings with the Knicks, bolstered by returning stars like Donovan Mitchell, Evan Mobley, and Darius Garland.
While the Knicks recorded 51 wins, they advanced farther in the playoffs than Cleveland, eventually losing to the Pacers in the conference finals in six games.
Teams like the Pacers and Celtics face their own challenges, as their star players, Tyrese Halliburton and Jason Tatum, are likely to miss a large portion of the upcoming season due to Achilles injuries.
Other strong contenders in the East include the Magic, Pistons, and Bucks, though Milwaukee’s success hinges on Giannis Antetokounmpo’s intentions regarding his future with the team.
The Knicks, having controversially parted ways with coach Tom Thibodeau after a successful season, will begin their preseason ahead of the rest of the league, traveling to Abu Dhabi for exhibition games against the Sixers on October 2 and 4.
They will conclude the preseason at home against the Timberwolves on October 9 and the Wizards on October 13.
This will be part of Brown’s inaugural training camp. He’s an experienced coach hired last month, eager to implement a faster, more dynamic offensive strategy.
The annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day game is set for January 19, featuring the Mavericks at 5 PM, as announced by NBC and Peacock.
If everything goes well, Mavericks rookie Cooper Flagg is expected to make his professional debut on that day.
The complete NBA schedule will be unveiled on Thursday.
