Kraken assistant coach Jessica Campbell makes history as team falters in season opener

As soon as the puck dropped in the NHL game between the Seattle Kraken and the St. Louis Blues on Tuesday night, history was made.

Jessica Campbell is the first woman in league history to work behind the bench as an assistant coach for an NHL team. Unfortunately, we almost lost 3-2 to the Blues.

Despite the loss, Kraken defenseman Vince Dunn recognized the historic moment that occurred at Climate Pledge Arena.

“This is something we are all proud to be a part of,” Dunn added. “This is definitely a statement for all women around the world, so tonight is a special moment for her. It's a shame we couldn't give her the win.”

Campbell was an assistant with the Coachella Valley Firebirds of the American Hockey League

Dunn and teammate Eeli Tolvanen each scored for the Kraken, but they were unable to defeat the Blues.
