Kristen McDonald Privet wins Dem primary for Rep Dan Kildee’s open blue Michigan seat

State Senator Kristen McDonald Privette has been announced the winner of the Democratic primary for Michigan’s 8th Congressional District.

Democratic Rep. Dan Kildee of Michigan announced he will not seek reelection in 2023, leaving the seat he has represented since 2012 vacant this term.

Three candidates competed for the nomination in the primary: Kristen McDonald Privette, Matt Collier, and Pamela Pugh.

Collier served as mayor of Flint, Michigan in the late 1980s.

Pugh currently serves as chairman of the Michigan State Board of Education.

MacDonald-Privette currently serves as the first female state senator representing the Great Lakes Bay region.

The state senator also served as executive director of Michigan Head Start, chief of staff at the Michigan Department of Education and vice president of the Skillman Foundation.
