Kristi Noem finalizes important security agreement during her trip to Argentina

Noem’s Visit to Argentina and Visa Waiver Program Talks

Julio Rosas, a national correspondent for Blaze Media, is on the ground with the Department of Homeland Security, covering Kristi Noem’s official trip to South America. On Monday, Noem dedicated an entire day to her duties in Argentina, which included a cultural event that featured horse riding.

Noem kicked off her day with a meeting at the Bosch Palace with U.S. Charge D’affaires Heidi Gomez Laparo.

“All nations in the Visa Waiver Program must meet specific qualifications to participate. Argentina has benefited from this program previously but is now working to regain its eligibility,” she stated.

Later, Noem visited Casa Rosada, where she formalized an agreement with Argentina’s Minister of National Security regarding the country’s return to the visa waiver program, along with necessary measures for repatriation.

“Noem and Minister Brulich will also put their signatures on an agreement aimed at streamlining repatriation and ensuring that ‘fugitives will not be released from detention upon being repatriated,'” Rosas reported.

The motorcade then proceeded to Campo de Mayo military base for a cultural engagement that featured traditional Argentine cuisine and a regionally styled barbecue. A gaucho dance was performed in honor of Noem and her team prior to dinner.

When Rosas inquired about safeguards to prevent misuse of the exemption program at military bases, Noem responded while mounted on horseback.

It’s worth noting that Argentina was removed from the visa waiver program back in 2002. Noem shared that she had in-depth discussions about this issue with President Javier Miley and other Argentine officials. “We can simplify the process to facilitate interactions, whether for tourists or business purposes,” she added.

Following her engagements in Argentina, Noem was set to travel to Chile to sign further agreements with leaders in Latin America.
