The Busch Family Returns to Racing

The Busch family is back at the racetrack. Samantha Busch recently shared a video on Instagram showcasing her son, Brexton, celebrating his first win at the track following the unexpected death of Kyle Busch in May at the age of 41.

During the celebration, Busch embraced and kissed her 11-year-old son in the mailbox area, and they also took a photo together with a checkered flag in front of his father’s green race car.

Busch described Friday night’s event at Oklahoma’s Port City Raceway as both thrilling and bittersweet, expressing that she felt immense pride yet heartbreak simultaneously. “Brexton continues to amaze me with his determination, resilience, and passion for racing, even with so much on his plate at such a young age,” she noted in her Instagram post. As she watched him celebrate, she couldn’t help but think of Kyle, who would have found great joy in seeing Brexton race. “He spent the entire day working on his car and then ran to Victory Lane with a huge smile,” she added.

Brexton had competed in various divisions but clinched victory in the limited micro sprint class, reportedly starting from the 14th position.

Busch documented the night’s races on her Instagram Stories. “I started 14th in Brexton’s limited micro sprint, and on Lap 1, due to a wreck, I found myself back at 12th. I made my way through the field,” she explained. “And he won!!!” She cheered on with her 4-year-old daughter, Lennix, by her side.

In further Instagram reflections, Busch reminisced about her late husband, particularly regarding Brexton’s deepening connection to racing. “I used to tell Kyle late at night, amidst all the chaos of race weekends, that someday, when I was 80, I’d look back and realize those were the best days of my life. I knew it then, and I know it even more now,” she shared.

“Congratulations buddy. Your dad would have been so proud. ❤️🏁” she concluded.

It’s worth noting that Kyle’s No. 8 car will remain unused until Brexton is ready to join NASCAR.

Samantha married Kyle in December 2010. Kyle Busch tragically passed away shortly after being hospitalized due to a sudden illness. He became unresponsive following testing at the Chevrolet Racing Simulator in Concord, North Carolina. It was later discovered that he had pneumonia that developed into sepsis.

Samantha has been candid about the grief her family has endured in the months following Kyle’s passing. Before the race, they took a trip for the Fourth of July, where she reflected on how “heartbreak and joy are no longer separate entities.”
