Kyle Filipowski had a lackluster summer league debut with the Jazz on Monday night after weeks of off-court drama surrounding his fiancée, Caitlin Hutchison.
The former Duke University star missed all four of his shots and didn’t score any points but did grab four rebounds in 17 minutes in Utah’s 97-95 win over Memphis.
Filipowski has been a hot topic since the Jazz selected him 32nd overall in the 2024 NBA Draft in late June, when they fell to the second round.

Details have since emerged that the relationship between the two may be the reason the team didn’t select one of the talented college big men in the 2024 NBA Draft.
ESPN’s Jonathan Givony noted that teams had questions about the couple’s age difference. Hutchison is 27 years old, Filippovski is 20 years old. — and spoke about how their relationship led him to cut ties with his family, calling it a “very strange situation.”
“There’s no question about his character, but NBA teams have said he was nervous and his training wasn’t great.” Givony said on NBA Today. Last month, they asked him about the situation in an interview, but the answers they got were not satisfactory.”
Filipovsky’s estranged family provided further context with testimony from individuals claiming to be his brother and mother, who allege that Filipovsky had been trained and brainwashed by Hutchison.

According to Page Six, the pair first began dating in December 2021, when Hutchison was 25 and Flipowski was 18 at the time.
