Kyle Juszczyk, affectionately nicknamed “Juice” by his teammates on the San Francisco 49ers, is in the spotlight for a recent incident. His nickname comes from the way he exuberantly celebrates touchdowns and first downs. However, during a game against the Dolphins, he acted out a chugging tradition, which led to him receiving a hefty fine of $14,926.
The NFL’s fine letter stated that his imitation of chugging a beer was deemed an “offensive demonstration” and was, perhaps, in poor taste. It’s interesting, isn’t it? This is the first time he’s faced a fine for this particular celebration. Juszczyk has already appealed the decision and shared his surprise with NFL insider Adam Schefter.
Interestingly, he texted Schefter, “And I don’t even drink beer!” which adds a layer of humor, if you think about it. He also took to social media, expressing his disbelief with a post saying, “Can’t make this stuff up…”
This incident comes after Juszczyk scored his first touchdown of the season during the 49ers’ 35-13 victory over Miami. Having spent a decade with the team and earned nine Pro Bowl selections, one might think that officials would be more familiar with the nature of his celebratory antics. It seems a little odd that the fine was issued without recognizing that his celebration is all about “imaginary juice” rather than actual beer.
