Kyle Schwarber hits two home runs at the Field of Dreams event

Kyle Schwarber hit his second home run during the MLB Field of Dreams game on Thursday, and it had an interesting twist thanks to the field itself.

It was the fourth inning, and the Phillies were leading 7-1 when Schwarber launched a ball off Twins pitcher Taj Bradley into the right-field area. The low fences at the venue meant that outfielder Luke Keishall had a chance to make the catch, but, well, things didn’t quite go as planned.

Just as Keishall seemed to have it under control, the ball slipped through his glove and sailed over the fence. This gave the Phillies an edge of 4-1 against Minnesota.

The commentary team over at Netflix, featuring Matt Vasgersian, CC Sabathia, and Hunter Pence, couldn’t help but express their disappointment with a collective “oh no” when the mishap occurred. Pence humorously remarked, “Unfortunately, I think that was Keesh’s home run.”

Earlier in the game, Schwarber also hit a homer on the third pitch of the first inning, sending the ball over the right-field fence and into the nearby cornfield. With these two home runs, he made history with a record-setting 37 homers this season.

After Thursday’s game, Schwarber ranked among the league’s best hitters, showcasing a slash line of .250/.371/.544, complemented by 72 RBIs.

Leading up to the game, he expressed excitement to be at the Field of Dreams, looking forward to the corn and the historic setting. “I think it’s going to be great,” he shared with reporters. “I’ve never been there before, so I’m looking forward to seeing the corn and seeing the actual field where it was filmed. I think it’s going to be really cool just to be in that atmosphere.”

Schwarber also hoped the event would evoke some nostalgia. He mentioned that there would be various activities leading up to the game that would contribute to a classic feel. “So I think it’s going to be really great and hopefully we’ll have a good time,” he added.
