Philadelphia’s Kyle Schwarber Shines with Four Home Runs Against Braves

Kyle Schwarber put on an impressive display on Thursday night, hitting four home runs during a 19-4 rout of the Atlanta Braves. This performance makes him the fourth player in Phillies history and the 21st overall in Major League Baseball to achieve such a feat.

Schwarber had a stellar game, going 6-for-6 and setting a Phillies record with nine runs batted in.

With this latest performance, he now leads the National League with a career-best 49 home runs, edging ahead of a player from Seattle. Additionally, Schwarber tops the majors with 119 RBIs, another career high.

The last Philadelphia player to hit four homers in a game was Mike Schmidt, back in April 1976 against the Chicago Cubs. This was also the third game this season in which a player hit four home runs, following Eugenio Suarez and Nick Kurtz.

Schwarber kicked off his remarkable outing with a solo home run off Cal Quantrill, who is 4-12 this season, sending a 2-1 curveball over to right field. He later batted in the second inning, marking another hit.

Once Quantrill was pulled in the fourth inning with two runners on base and one out, Schwarber greeted left-handed pitcher Austin Cox. He crushed a 3-2 curveball that soared to the right wall, marking his fourth multi-homer game of the season.

As fans chanted, “MVP! MVP!” in the fifth inning, Schwarber continued his offensive onslaught, hitting a three-run homer off Cox to extend Philadelphia’s lead to 15-3. Later, he hit another three-run blast in the seventh, further advancing the score to 18-4.

In the eighth, Schwarber jumped to catch a fly ball while Vidal Brujan worked on the mound.

The Phillies’ starting pitcher, Aaron Nola, faced a rocky first inning but managed to navigate through it, throwing 37 pitches. Besides Schwarber’s phenomenal performance, teammates J.T. Realmuto and Max Kepler also contributed, while Bryce Harper got a home run of his own, recording a total of 20 hits for Philadelphia.
