Kyle Tucker, Cubs could initiate extension talks this summer

There are no indications that the Cubs are still discussing a potential extension with the Kyle Tucker superstar, but they may talk this summer.

Stars usually don’t give up on free agency in the year of walking. Mookie Betts and Garrett Crochet are rare exceptions, especially with new teams, but the improved Cubs, the Marquee franchise, may retain their appeal. They also made the biggest deals with other Excel clients, Jason Heyward and Danby Swanson (these transactions were $184 million and $177 million respectively, leaving the cautious Cubs unnoticed for their monster trading despite their big income).

The obvious comp is Vladimir Guerrero Jr.’s $500 million deal. Tucker is probably a better all-round player, but Guerrero’s edge is age (Tucker is relatively younger, but 26 months old), and the bigger Cache and Jays’ despair.

Guerrero’s contract (and perfect for baseball, he stayed!) will expand the $335 million signature bonus for 14 years.
