Mbappé Accuses PSG of Moral Harassment
PARIS – Kylian Mbappé has accused Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) of moral harassment, as confirmed by the Paris prosecutor’s office on Thursday.
The star forward, now with Real Madrid, claims that PSG owes him €55 million (about $61 million) in unpaid wages.
Mbappé has expressed dissatisfaction with how he was treated by the Ligue 1 club after he was sidelined prior to the 2023-24 season, especially following the decision not to renew his contract.
The prosecutor’s office noted that Mbappé “denounces the ‘lofting'” he alleges to have experienced at PSG. In France, “lofting” refers to isolating players from the main squad, often as a disciplinary measure.
After a successful seven-year stint at PSG, where he set the club record with 256 goals, Mbappé joined Real Madrid last summer as a free agent.
His departure from PSG came amid significant tension, with reports of fans booing him during his final home appearance. The club was reportedly disheartened when he opted not to sign a highly lucrative contract extension back in 2022.
Mbappé felt let down, believing that key players had made commitments that ultimately weren’t fulfilled. When he first signed his contract, he was showcased to fans, which intensified his frustration when issues arose in 2024.
In June 2023, Mbappé made a surprising decision by not opting for an extra year on his contract, effectively placing himself in a position where PSG needed to sell him to avoid losing him for nothing.
His career with PSG was fraught with challenges, including a tense standoff over a potential transfer. After informing the club that he wouldn’t extend his contract, he left the preseason tour in Japan and South Korea, being relegated to training with reserve players. PSG indicated they preferred to sell him in 2024 rather than allowing him to depart for free, even in the face of interest from Al-Hilal, who made a €300 million bid.
Despite his situation, Mbappé was eventually included in the lineup shortly after voicing his concerns.
In April, his legal team announced plans to pursue a lawsuit against PSG for harassment based on his treatment during this tumultuous period.
