Mbappé Faces Racist Remarks Post World Cup Win

Kylian Mbappé, the star of the French national soccer team, has sparked significant backlash after a Paraguayan senator made racist comments about him following France’s World Cup win against Paraguay. This incident unfolded on July 4 during a match in Philadelphia, where Mbappé secured a penalty that led to a 1-0 victory for France.

After the game’s conclusion, images of Mbappé celebrating in front of Paraguayan goalkeeper Orlando Gil circulated widely on social media.

Amarilla, a senator from Paraguay’s Liberal Radical Party, took to X to share her offensive remarks. She referred to Mbappé as a “beast” and suggested he was raised “sucking coconuts” instead of receiving proper nourishment. Her comments also included a bizarre remark about chimpanzees being the most educated beings she knows.

To add to the drama, Amarilla insisted that she should have shown Mbappé the middle finger, claiming it wouldn’t impact her position in the Senate.

Later, on Instagram, she described Mbappé as a “colonized Cameroonian pretending to be French” while branding him as arrogant and ugly. Additionally, she criticized Paraguayan players for not retaliating against him after the match.

In response, Mbappé labeled Amarilla a “despicable woman” on X, questioning her fitness for public office and defending the Paraguayan team. He asserted that she does not represent the spirit of Paraguay, a nation that demonstrated passion and honor throughout the tournament. He accused her reckless comments of overshadowing Paraguay’s remarkable World Cup performance, calling her an “incompetent woman” who tarnishes the country’s image.

The French Football Federation quickly condemned Amarilla’s remarks, with president Philippe Diallo deeming her comments “despicable, criminal and reprehensible.” The federation expressed its full support for Mbappé and has filed a formal complaint seeking a hate crime investigation into Amarilla’s statements.
