Kylian Mbappé’s Injury Update After Quarter-Final Victory
France supporters can breathe a sigh of relief; Kylian Mbappé reassured everyone that “everything is fine.”
He provided this update on Thursday, following a request to be substituted during the World Cup quarter-final match against Morocco. “I’m fine. I hit my ankle, but I’m fine,” he remarked after France’s 2-0 victory, adding, “He [Jean-Philippe Mateta] played better than me in the last 15 minutes.”
During the match, Mbappé went down for treatment and was replaced by Crystal Palace’s Mateta in the 77th minute.
Afterward, France coach Didier Deschamps noted that Mbappé was experiencing “a slight problem with his ankle,” mentioning that he felt some pain.
The 2018 World Cup champion appeared to be managing well, applying ice to his ankle while on the bench, ultimately leaving the field on his own accord.
ESPN reported a source indicating there was “no concern” regarding Mbappé’s ankle injury.
It was a relief to see him celebrating with his teammates both on the field and in the locker room after the match. Despite the injury scare, Mbappé had quite an eventful match against the African team.
Even though he missed a penalty kick in the first half, he redeemed himself with a stunning goal in the 60th minute, putting France ahead 1-0.
France maintained control for the remainder of the game, securing the 2-0 win with a goal from Ousmane Dembélé.
Deschamps acknowledged the challenges faced, saying, “We have great players. Today was complicated. We missed the penalty and didn’t convert chances, which made things difficult. Kylian reacted well and scored. We’re right where we wanted to be and will recover as we prepare for our next opponent.”
Mbappé has been in remarkable form throughout this World Cup, currently leading in the Golden Boot race with eight goals and three assists.
If he and France emerge victorious in their semi-final, they will reach the World Cup final for the third consecutive year.
“We are very happy. We know that the only way to relax is to win. But there’s a long road ahead. We understand that what comes next will be tougher, but we’re prepared for whatever challenges lie ahead,” said Mbappé. “I hope to recover well and watch the upcoming game to see who we’ll be facing.”
