Kylie Jenner’s Latest Promotion Sparks Controversy
Kylie Jenner has found herself in hot water following her recent promotion for Kylie Cosmetics.
This past weekend, she shared a brief video on Instagram, depicting a staged arrest. In the video, the beauty mogul and reality star donned a daring outfit consisting of a black leather bra, matching micro shorts, a silver hip chain, and black point-toe pumps.
Her long, dark hair, highlighted with teal, flowed over her shoulders, complementing her striking makeup.
In the clip, Jenner, age 28, walked slowly down a prison corridor, handcuffed, flanked by two police officers.
The screen flashed the words “King Kylie. Tomorrow,” while a voice whispered in the background.
The phrase “King Kylie” harks back to her edgy style from 2015, when she introduced her now-famous line of lip kits, which transformed into a major beauty empire.
While some fans expressed excitement over the nostalgic reference, with comments like, “Ah, it’s back again!!!”, others were less than pleased.
Critics voiced their disapproval over the artistic choice, particularly in a climate where social issues and unrest are rampant. One angry Reddit user pointed out, “The country is boiling over… and Kylie Jenner releases a handcuffed hotpants photoshoot. This isn’t satire; it’s American corruption,” in reference to ongoing ICE raids.
Another social media user remarked on the tone-deafness of the situation, suggesting that Jenner seemed oblivious to the real struggles of those being represented. They stated, “It’s as if she could understand what these people are going through… disgusting.”
A third critic described the promotion as “absolutely awful” and noted parallels to an infamous advertisement from her sister, Kendall Jenner, where she offered a soda to police during a protest, highlighting yet another controversial moment.
With various “No King” protests occurring nationwide against perceived authoritarian policies, observers found it peculiar that Jenner would choose to drop an ad titled “King Kylie” during such a politically charged time.
As of now, Kylie’s representatives have not responded to inquiries regarding the backlash.
