LOS ANGELES — Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass is unpopular with voters, with a 42% approval rating and 44% disapproval, in the wake of wildfires that have destroyed large swathes of the city, according to the latest Rasmussen Report poll.
The poll, scheduled to be released Thursday, was conducted Jan. 13-15 among 809 likely voters in Los Angeles County. The elector-weighted results for the 2024 presidential election are biased toward Democrats, which is not surprising.
But party loyalty did not exempt Mr. Basu from criticism for his response, or mishandling, to wildfires that started while he was abroad, literally enjoying cocktails at the U.S. ambassador's residence in Accra, Ghana. .
The poll found that 57% of likely voters said Ms Bass had done a poor (33%) or fair (27%) job in dealing with the bushfires, compared to 57% who said she had done an excellent job. Only 36% said they did a good job (15%) or a good job (21%). By contrast, more than two-thirds (69%) of voters say public officials have generally done a good job fighting wildfires.
In a particularly damning poll, 35% of voters said they would have preferred Bass's 2022 opponent Rick Caruso to have won the mayoral race, compared to just 29% who disagreed. It was.
Caruso used civilian firefighters to protect his Palisades Village shopping mall in Pacific Palisades from the blaze. It is one of the few remaining major buildings.
base won In 2022, 55% to 45% were convincingly pro-abortion. Specifically, because Caruso was a former Republican who had donated to pro-life candidates, the idea was that she was the only truly pro-choice Democrat in the race.

Strangely, polls reveal that voters do not blame California Governor Gavin Newsom for the wildfires. 54% say he has done a “good” or “excellent” job on the wildfires, with an approval rating of 57% (vs. 39%). Disapproved. )
A majority of Angelenos blame climate change for wildfires (40%), but 51% blame other causes, including “other forces of nature” (27%) and public officials (24%). are. Additionally, 79% said arson was also likely a contributing factor.
