LA 2028 Olympics leader expresses regret over Ghislaine Maxwell emails

Wasserman Responds to Emails Disclosed by DOJ

Casey Wasserman, the chairman of the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Committee, made a statement on Friday regarding his emails found in a recent release from the U.S. Department of Justice. This release, which comprised over 3 million documents, is connected to investigations surrounding human trafficking and child sex offenses involving Jeffrey Epstein.

Among the emails were discussions between Wasserman and Ghislaine Maxwell. Despite this, Wasserman insists he never had a relationship with Epstein. He reflected on this, stating, “I deeply regret having corresponded with Ghislaine Maxwell more than 20 years ago, long before her horrific crimes came to light. I have never had a personal or business relationship with Jeffrey Epstein.” He added further context, mentioning a humanitarian trip he took on Epstein’s plane in 2002 as part of a Clinton Foundation initiative, expressing regret for any affiliation with Epstein and Maxwell.

The emails in question date back to 2003 and contained phrases like “Where are you, I want to see you” and “Can I book that massage now?” Notably, Wasserman was married at that time. He divorced his wife, Laura Ziffren Wasserman, in 2021 after two decades of marriage.

Maxwell’s responses included comments like, “Will it be okay to rub like that? Honestly, I get a little choked up thinking about it,” which raises eyebrows given the context. Epstein was found dead in his prison cell in August 2019, ruled a suicide. He was facing serious charges related to sex trafficking of minors.

Maxwell herself was convicted in 2021 on five charges, including sex trafficking and abuse of a minor, and is currently serving a 20-year prison sentence.

The release of these documents was mandated by a law requiring the government to disclose files about the deceased financier and his former associate, Maxwell. Wasserman is known for founding a sports and talent agency representing many prominent athletes across various sports.
