LA Galaxy Signs Joao Kraus

On Tuesday, LA Galaxy made headlines—not just for a player acquisition but with a significant announcement. The club has brought in Brazilian forward Joao Kraus from St. Louis City SC, securing him with a substantial $2.375 million cash contract. This move is crucial for the five-time MLS Cup champions, especially after losing Riqui Puig to a season-ending injury earlier this month.

The Galaxy is eager to avoid another year at the bottom of the standings, where they finished second-to-last in the Western Conference in 2025. With Puig out, they’re looking to inject fresh energy into the team. Kraus, who is 28, could be just the player to provide that spark, although he won’t be available to play right away.

Kraus has a diverse background, having developed his skills in Germany with Hoffenheim, trained in Austria with LASK, refined his game in Belgium at Standard Liège, and faced the competitive atmosphere of MLS with St. Louis City. His experience includes participating in crucial European matches, including the UEFA Europa League and intense games in the Concacaf Champions Cup. That kind of exposure, while not easily quantified, often translates to success in high-stakes moments.

The Galaxy hopes that this acquisition will bolster their attacking lineup significantly. Kraus, known for scoring 27 goals across 85 matches and achieving double-digit goals in both 2023 and 2025, notably scored a memorable hat trick against the Galaxy last June. Now, he’ll team up with Gabriel Peck and Joseph Paintsil, creating a formidable front line that will demand attention.

“We’re a fierce competitor,” said Galaxy general manager Will Kuntz, underscoring the club’s ambition. Kraus’s track record hints at a bright future for the Galaxy, adding necessary depth and tenacity to their attack as they prepare for the upcoming season.
