Fireworks and Chaos After Dodgers’ World Series Win
On Saturday night, celebrations erupted in Los Angeles following the Dodgers’ victory over the Toronto Blue Jays in the World Series, but not without some chaos. A police officer encountered fireworks and bottles being hurled during the festivities, prompting the police to deploy tear gas to manage the situation.
Early on Sunday, the LAPD’s Central Division announced their authorization to use less-lethal munitions and tear gas in the area around Olympic Boulevard and Grand Avenue. According to a post, officers faced industrial-sized fireworks and projectiles, although it remained unclear if there were any injuries among them.
Visuals from downtown Los Angeles depicted police in helmets and masks, with explosions of fireworks ringing through the night and smoke wafting high above the streets. There was a noticeable sight of smoke originating from a car that appeared to have burned out tires, while reports noted a Waymo vehicle sporting broken windows and graffiti on Sunset Boulevard.
This frenzy followed a thrilling win, clinched by catcher Will Smith’s game-winning home run in the 11th inning, leading to a final score of 5-4. The energy of the crowd was palpable, as fans took to the streets to celebrate.
In a remarkable feat, Los Angeles claimed its second consecutive title, joining the ranks of the New York Yankees, who previously achieved back-to-back championships in 1999 and 2000. The highlight of the game came from pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto, who, after starting Game 6, closed the night with a double play, sealing the Dodgers’ victory.
