Support for Mike Collins from Laken Riley’s Family
Laken Riley’s mother and stepfather have publicly backed House Republican Mike Collins in his campaign for the US Senate in Georgia. The couple expressed their support in a campaign press release.
Laken, a 22-year-old nursing student, was tragically murdered last year by a Venezuelan man named Jose Ibarra. In their statement, Alison Riley and John Phillips emphasized that no other candidate is more deserving of a Senate seat than Collins, as they believe he genuinely means what he says and produces results. Interestingly, some reports, including the press release, referred to Laken’s mother as Alison Phillips instead of Alison Riley.
“What Mike did for our family wasn’t about politics or seeking attention,” they mentioned. “He stood up to advocate for justice for our sweet Laken, and we will always be thankful to Mike Collins, Sen. Katie Britt, and President Trump.”
This year, the “Laken Riley Act” became the first law that President Donald Trump signed after starting his second term.
Senator John Ossoff, who aims to secure another term in Georgia next year, supported the legislation’s passage.
The couple criticized the Biden administration and current senators for enabling an open border that they believe allowed Laken’s murderer to enter the country. “They seemed more focused on protecting illegal immigrants than their own citizens,” they stated.
Collins shared in a recent post how humbled he is to have the family’s support in his Senate campaign, saying, “Laken is the reason I’m fighting, and her cause keeps me motivated.”
Another Republican, Representative Buddy Carter, is also vying for the Senate seat.
