Lakers interested in Christian Wood after losing out on Dario Saric

Another season, another team – it’s nothing new for Christian Wood.

The Lakers are still looking for a center to fill the 14th roster spot, and Wood, who has played for seven teams in seven years, became a new target after the Warriors acquired Dario Saric on Saturday. According to The Athletic.

“We are aggressively entering the market to add even more big,” Los Angeles general manager Rob Pelinka told media on Sunday.

Seven-footer Jackson Hayes signed with the Lakers on Thursday, but the team continues to focus on adding depth to its frontcourt and increasing diversity in its midfield talent.

“I think it’s important to dimension the skills in that position,” Pelinka said.

“So we don’t want to sign players who replicate the skills that Jackson Hayes has. So if we can diversify the big positions and have different looks, that would be nice.”

Wood, 27, has had a rocky season with the Mavericks, and it’s clear Dallas has no plans for a return offer.

The Athletic also reported that Bismack Biyombo would be considered by the Lakers.

Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd played around with Woods’ minutes and reduced Woods’ role throughout the season as the two sides never came to the same realization about the big man’s goals.

Wood averaged 16.6 points, 1.8 assists and 7.3 rebounds through 67 games.

Wood did the best he could in the second half of Dallas, which languished in fifth place in the Western Conference in early February and missed the playoffs.

A sign-and-trade could be a potential way to bring Wood to Los Angeles, but it would likely require at least a three-year deal.

The 6-foot-9 center, who is in his eighth season in the league, has no postseason experience yet.

The Lakers are likely an attractive option for Wood, could be part of a strong team, and perhaps get some stability from an organization that really wants him.
