Jeannie Bass said the secret was the main reason the shocking Luka Donsic Anthony Davis trade experienced.
Lakers owners revealed Thursday that if the deal between the Lakers and the Mavericks had been leaked in advance, it is likely that the trade has been halted.
“If that were leaking, trade probably wouldn’t have happened, and for so many different reasons, I feel it.” Bass told Rob Perez and Antonio Daniels SiriusXm on NBA radio. “People who are against us, they don’t want to see that trade happen.”
Bus also added that the trade leak was the way the Lakers stopped making potential moves earlier, and that managers must change their approach with Doncic-Davis’ blockbuster.
“It’s really, really important to keep things on a rap,” Bass continued. “Our circle is tight because over the years we have had issues with things leaking out, which has disrupted the plans and caused some issues with running basketball.
“Finally, we’ve removed the problem. Now we can keep wrapping things when we choose. I really learned the lesson that you have to always do what’s best for the organization because everyone has an angle to what they want.”
Most people outside the Lakers and Mavericks management knew about potential trade in advance, so both Don Sic, 26, and Davis, 32, were shocked by the news.
LeBron James had no prior knowledge of the deal either. All ESPN.
Insider Shams Charania, who first reported the trade, said the Mavericks reportedly reached out to the Lakers a few days ago.
“This deal came true in the shadows. It came out of nowhere.” Chariana said in February. “LeBron James never thought this would come, and Anthony Davis never thought this would come.
“Luka Donsic is said to be still surprised about the deal.”
