Lakers' NBA Cup court found unsuitable after complaints from Luka Doncic

Last-Minute Change for Lakers Before NBA Cup Game

The Los Angeles Lakers had to make an unexpected adjustment recently, prompted by concerns raised about the NBA Cup court. This change came just before a game against the Dallas Mavericks on Friday.

Throughout the regular season, all 30 NBA teams have been updating their courts to feature a more decorative design in anticipation of the NBA Cup. However, not everyone has been pleased with these changes. Luka Doncic, a prominent player, recently labeled the Lakers’ court as “dangerous.”

In fact, the Lakers acknowledged Doncic’s concerns, stating that technicians had found the NBA Cup court to be unplayable for the day’s game. This led them to switch back to their regular court for that matchup.

Just to put things in perspective, Doncic had an impressive game prior, scoring 43 points, dishing out 13 assists, and grabbing nine rebounds, leading the Lakers to a win over the Los Angeles Clippers, 135-118. Still, the flashy new courts didn’t seem to fit well with his usual performance standards.

The court’s conditions had become a hot topic, with Doncic saying, “Adjust your court. It’s slippery. It’s dangerous… I’ve slipped many times. I’ve seen a lot of guys slipping. It’s dangerous, dude.” With these claims taking center stage, it was clear that action needed to be taken.

The court will undergo inspection and necessary repairs before any potential quarterfinal games at Crypto.com Arena.

Despite these challenges, the Lakers have not faltered, winning all three of their NBA Cup games so far and moving on to the quarterfinals.
