The Los Angeles Lakers are on a mission to enhance their roster after a disappointing playoff exit against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Interestingly, one of the players involved in their elimination, Lou Dort, may be a focal point in their plans.

NBA insider Marc Stein mentioned that the Lakers have contacted the Thunder regarding the potential signing of the veteran swingman, Lou Dort, as they assess various offseason options.

“I also hear that the Lakers have called the Thunder regarding the availability of swingman Lou Dort,” Stein noted in a recent update.

This inquiry comes at a pivotal moment for the Thunder, who find themselves in a complicated roster situation. They already have 15 players signed and hold two first-round draft picks. This has led to speculation that they might consider trading Dort, especially after exercising his $17.2 million team option.

At 27, Dort has established himself as one of the league’s elite perimeter defenders. His first-team All-Defense honors during Oklahoma City’s 2025 championship run solidified his reputation as a challenging matchup for opposing stars.

Dort’s defensive prowess could be exactly what the Lakers need, especially given their struggles on that end of the floor and their difficulty managing the Thunder’s athletic wings in the playoffs.

However, convincing the Thunder to part with him might prove challenging.

Last season, Dort’s offensive numbers dipped to 8.3 points and 3.6 rebounds per game, but his defensive impact remains strong. Oklahoma City sees him as a vital piece, and any trade would likely demand a significant return from the Lakers, who are already working with limited draft resources.

There are also lingering questions about whether Dort’s offensive game can mesh well with a roster centered around Luka Doncic. While he shot over 41 percent during Oklahoma City’s championship year, his efficiency noticeably declined in the 2025-26 season, raising concerns about spacing alongside the Lakers’ star.

Nonetheless, the Lakers’ interest signals their priorities for the offseason. They are keen on acquiring a defensively-focused wing and bolstering their frontcourt, with veteran centers like Walker Kessler, Mitchell Robinson, and Robert Williams III also on their radar.
